The aim of this website is to connect more people to the game of Ki o Rahi, and to help grow and strengthen the game until it is a regular part of our lifestyle here in Aotearoa (New Zealand).

To achieve this we will provide access to different matauranga and resource so everyone can share in this treasure. All proceeds from any products go towards the continued growth and development of Ki o Rahi.

The game of Ki o Rahi stems from the legend of Rahitutakahina and Tiarakurapakewai.

It is essential that when learning the game that the puurakau (story) is also learnt.

The story demonstrates that the sport is much more than a game. It is a tribute to our ancestors, our language and our culture.

There are many different accounts of the story of Tiara and Rahi, it would be quite handy to try and find that story that relates best to your area of the country.

The rules of Ki o Rahi differ slightly from region to region and this brings a unique aspect to the sport. When travelling to another region you must become familiar with their rules in order to try and beat them at their 'own game'.

At some competitions, teams meet on the field to tatuu (negotiate) the rules to be played for that specific game. Common areas that may be discussed during tatuu include number of Kaitiaki, number of Taniwha players allowed in Te Roto and whether or not Ki oma players can catch the ball whilst jumping above Te Roto,
