Despite the restrictions and rerekētanga of this years Ki-o-Rahi regionals, 7 Northland Secondary schools were able to come together and compete under the restrictions and guidelines of Alert Level 2.

The change saw Tewhatewha (team captains) step up and lead with absolute aroha and mana on the day. He Oranga Poutama Kaiwhakahaere, Leela Hauraki said "schools should be proud of their students, Tewhatewha (with the support of Kaitakawaenga) not only self-led and umpired their games but ensured the wairua remained positive and pai throughout."

The finals saw a repeat of last years teams, Okaihau College and Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Kaikohe compete again, however after an exciting game that could have gone either way, TKKM o Kaikohe took home the taonga and title of 2020 Northland Secondary School Champions.
