Te Kura Maori o Nga Tapuwae - 2018 Auckland Senior Champions

On Monday 24th September the Auckland Senior Ki o Rahi Regionals was held. 

From 16 original entries, 12 teams ended up making it out to Bruce Pulman Park, Papakura. Those 12 teams were split into 4 pools of 3, each team played 2 games in pool play before settling on the top 8. 

There was a good mix of new and experienced teams, teamwork was on display and games were played with respect and integrity.

Teams played quarter finals, semi finals and a final to determine the following placings:

1st - Te Kura Maori o Nga Tapuwae

2nd - Hoani Waititi

3rd - Nga Puna o Waiorea (Western Springs)

4th - Westlake Boys/Girls

5th - Westlake Boys/Girls

6th - Botany Downs

7th - TKKM o Mangere

8th - Pukekohe High

9th - Botany Downs

10th - Tuakau College

11th - Hoani Waititi 2

12th - Westlake Boys/Auckland Girls

2 - 4 teams will likely qualify, however organisers will inform teams of this at a later date.

Update - Wellington Secondary School Regionals 2018

22 teams have entered into the Wellington Secondary School Ki o Rahi Regionals for 2018.

These 22 teams are spread across 3 grades, a boys, girls and mixed grade. 

The mixed grade will act as the qualifier for the 2019 Secondary School Ki o Rahi Nationals to be held in the Hawkes Bay in April. 

There are 3 new teams entered this year which is always awesome.

If you’re free on Tuesday 25th September then head down to Onepoto Park in Titahi Bay, Porirua. 

Regional Secondary School Tournaments in September

There are three Regional Secondary School Ki o Rahi Tournaments coming up toward the end of September.  Has your school registered? 

The 3 Regional Tournaments are the Auckland, Wellington and King Country Tournaments, these are all qualifiers for the New Zealand National Ki o Rahi Tournament to be held at the Hawkes Bay Regional Sports Park in Hastings in April 2019. 

Auckland Secondary Schools Regional Tournament


The Auckland Regional Tournament is first up on Monday 24th September to be held at Bruce Pulman Park in Papakura.  Entries close on the 13th September so head along now to CollegeSport to find out all you need to know. 

Wellington Secondary Schools Regional Tournament


The very next day, Tuesday 25th September in the Nation's Capital will see Wellington Secondary Schools come together at Mana College to battle it out for the right to call themselves the Wellington Champs.  Entries close shortly so make sure your team is in.  Head to the CollegeSport website for more info.

Te Nehenehenui (King Country) Secondary School Regionals

The final regionals for the term to be held on the very last day of term are the Te Nehenehenui or King Country Secondary School Ki o Rahi Regionals.  I believe this is the first time these will be held and act as a qualifier for the region.  The tournament will be held on Friday 28th September at Te Kuiti High School, so head along to SportWaikato to get more information around how you can enter.

Hastings Super Sixes - Ki o Rahi

Here's a Ki o Rahi tournament we've just found out about, unfortunately registrations are close but if you've got connections to primary schools then I'd be liking their Facebook Page so that you can get a heads up for 2019.

Super Sixes is a 2 day sports event held in Hastings for Year 6 students, they have a range of sports that students can be a part of.

Ki o Rahi will be held on Thursday 19th September 2018 at the Hawkes Bay Regional Park, Hastings.  Head along if you're living local!  

They love Ki o Rahi in the Hawkes Bay, 2019 will see them hosting Ki o Rahi Secondary School Nationals!

The Murihiku Ki o Rahi Regional Champions for 2018 are Aurora College. 

Aurora College is one of New Zealand's southernmost secondary schools, they are based in Invercargill and entered two teams into the 2018 Murihiku Regional Tournament. 

Two Pools of 5 teams played in the tournament - also in attendance were Menzies College, James Hargest College, Verdon College, Aparima College. 

Menzies College and Aurora College each entered two teams, with Menzies and Aurora topping their respective pools before facing one another in the final. 

Aurora beat Menzies in the final 21 - 6 to be crowned the champions for 2018!
